Former Northern Ireland international and Linfield boss Warren Feeney has been sacked by Newport County, less than nine months after taking the job.

The Exiles are bottom of League Two after winning just once in their opening nine league games, with relegation out of the Football League a possibility.

Feeney was appointed manager in January after previous boss John Sheridan - whom the former Cardiff and Swansea striker had been assistant manager to - left for Oldham Athletic.

"Following a mixed start to the season the board of directors feel a change is necessary," read the club's statement.

"We would like to thank Warren for his service since joining the club back in October and wish him all the best for his future career."
