Glenavon are thought to be front runners to land Northern Ireland winger Paddy McCourt, two months after he left Luton Town.

Derry City boss Kenny Shiels has ruled the club out of signing the 32-year-old, while Linfield and Cliftonville have registered an interest but accept that a move is unlikely.

McCourt's wife Laura was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year. She had a successful operation on the tumour last month and it is hoped that she will make a full recovery.

McCourt has made 18 appearances for Northern Ireland, scoring twice.

Elsewhere, Portadown are hoping to bolster their depleted squad with the signing of midfielder Stephen Hughes, who is leaving Warrenpoint Town after their relegation was confirmed.

Another confirmed departure from the Ports is striker Gary Twigg, the former Shamrock Rovers hitman has signed a deal at Coleraine.

Linfield have confirmed the signing of defender Cameron Stewart from Crusaders, the 19-year-old centre half is very highly rated despite finding first-team football limited at the Crues.

Glentoran have announced the signing of centre half James Ferrin, who has returned from Australia. The 26-year-old came through the Glens youth setup and last played locally for Queen's University in their run to the Irish Cup semi-final in 2014.
