Ballymena United held on against a late Linfield siege to triumph in an action-packed County Antrim Shield final 3-2 against the Blues.

Linfield hit the post twice in the dying moments after a flying header from Mark Stafford had set up a grandstand finish, but Glenn Ferguson's men survived to record a famous victory.

Paddy McNally headed in the only goal in the first half, before Guy Bates levelled proceedings seven minutes after the break.

However, David Cushley restored the Sky Blues lead when his shot from the edge of the box took a wicked deflection off Mark Stafford to fly in past Ross Glendinning, before Eoin Kane added a third with fourteen minutes remaining.

It is Ballymena's second County Antrim Shield triumph in four seasons, with their previous victory coming against the same opponents in a penalty shooutout after a 1-1 draw.
