Irish Premiership champions Crusaders may be handed a lifeline in the Scottish Challenge Cup after Livingston were charged on fielding an ineligible player.

Defender Alan Lithgow played the full 90 minutes in Livi's 2-1 victory over the Crues at Seaview on 7th October, a win which sent the Scottish side into the quarter-finals.

However, the 28-year-old was sent-off against East Fife on 24th September and the SPFL now have requested Livingston to attend a hearing on 24th October regarding the issue.

The West Lothian side were drawn to host Welsh side The New Saints on Sunday 13th November in the last eight, although the Crues could yet take their place in the competition.
