Fans of German Bundesliga side Hamburg have started a petition urging their club to sign Northern Ireland striker Will Grigg.

The move comes following the Wigan Athletic striker's rise to stardom and fame throughout Euro 2016, with the catchy chant of 'Will Grigg's On Fire' (adapted from the 1990s anthem 'Freed from Desire') proving a massive hit throughout France.

Over 6,000 have already signed the petition with the claim that a move would "finally bring proper atmosphere to the stadium".

"Grigg has a market value of €1.5m", states the petition

"The striker enjoys an international reputation and would probably [pay for himself] several times over through merchandising."

It claims the deal would provide a cult hero for "the club, and the city … The HSV fans need a player like Grigg."
